5.5.3 Emotional Self-Care

When planning for the emotional self-care of the survivor, encourage them to think about a time when they felt emotionally balanced and ask them the following questions:

  1. What activities did they do for fun or to relax? What did they enjoy? Were there events or activities that they looked forward to?

  2. Where did they spend their time? Was there a place or environment that helped them to feel comfortable?

  3. Did they spend time with people who made them feel safe and supported? Who were those people?

  4. Did they write down their thoughts in a journal?

  5. Did they practice meditation or other relaxation activities as part of their daily routine?

  6. Was there an author or website that they enjoyed reading for inspiration?
