4.4.2.7 Genital Exam

Place the patient in an appropriate position, dependent on age, to allow you to optimally view and perform the vaginal/rectal/penile examination.

Inspect external genitalia and rectal area for visual signs of trauma.

Document injuries on the ‘Genital Map’ of the history form, and photograph injuries before obtaining any swab collection.

If you are using a colposcope, injury documentation should be done prior to obtaining any swabs.

You will want to save the sheet from the exam table that the patient sat/laid on during the exam as evidence.
